What’s new with ActionTiles?
It has been a while since we’ve posted any news, but we’ve been very busy beavers (we are 🍁 Canadian, you know, eh!).
We have added some exciting improvements and new features to ActionTiles. Here are the highlights.
1. Invitation Code requirement is eliminated!
Invitation codes really helped us to ensure that ActionTiles could be kept stable and reliable during the rollout, and that we would not get more Support requests than we could handle quickly. Our Helpdesk has a 97% “satisfaction rating” … and improving. We appreciate the patience you gave us during our “invitation only” period. Thank-you.
Now that Invitation Codes are not required, it is super easy to:
- Create an Account and use ActionTiles instantly (including 14 day free trial) at app.ActionTiles.com
- Create additional Buddy Accounts with whom to share Panels.
- Promote ActionTiles to your friends and social media connections!
2. Icon Selections & Tile Size Options!
While we plan ways to offer a much bigger selection of icons, our customers have praised this first step.
In Panel Builder, select the Tile Settings menu for any Tile and may tile types (panel shortcut, contact sensor, presence, switch, routine) offer a selection of icons. Also added the ability to size the Tile as a multiple of the base 1×1 size. Yes… we know you want the ability to set colors; so that additional feature is high on our to-do list!
Especially on Shared Panels, hiding the options button helps keep Panel users and Buddies out of trouble and simplifies the view. The show/hide setting is under Panel Settings in Panel Builder.
4. Copy Panels or Copy Tilesets!
Building the “perfect Panel” takes some effort. If you have multiple displays for the Panel, or you want to see the same or similar Tiles on your tablet and phone, etc., or you want to make a slightly different version of the Panel for secure Sharing, then you no longer have to start from scratch!
In the Panel Builder, select the menu, and Copy Panel. Give the copy any distinct name, and then you can edit it to make changes to its Tilesets, Tiles, Settings, or Sharing. Note that the copy is is distinct and not kept connected or synchronized with the original in any way.
Rather than copying an entire Panel, you may just want to copy a Tileset to one or more existing Panels. The Copy Tileset function is found on every Tileset’s own menu.
We worked with SmartThings operations to publish a major update to the “ActionTiles V6 (Connect)” SmartApp – the critical glue that links the ActionTiles web-app to your SmartThings Location (Hub).
We included valuable performance improvements, but those might not be as important as the 3 additional Thing Selection Lists. Before this update, ActionTiles was only compatible with Thing Types (devices) that properly claimed to be a “Sensor” and/or an “Actuator”. Now we will also automatically list for selection any Thing that claims to include Capability “Switch”, “Battery”, or “Temperature Sensor”.
Don’t worry about the details… The important news is that if you have been unable to find and authorize some of your Things in the past, there’s now a pretty good chance that they will appear in one of the of the new lists. If some Thing still doesn’t show up, please don’t hesitate to contact Support@ActionTiles.com
To see if you can add Things, go to My Locations and select (+) to add a Location or Authorize Things. After login to SmartThings and selecting your SmartThings Location, 5 lists will be shown. There will be a lot of overlapping items: there’s no need to select any particular Thing more than once, so just start from the top and work your way down. If you select a few duplicates, no problem; ActionTiles will automatically sort it out.
Don’t forget: You can visit our Support & Ideas & Feedback Forum anytime to read the latest and detailed history of Release Notes, ask Questions of other ActionTiles fans, contribute and vote on Feature Requests, and follow the status of open Bug Reports. The easy URLs to remember are: ActionTiles.com/feedback or support.ActionTiles.com
We really encourage you to subscribe to our ActionNews emails for various announcements and promotions. Blog entries like this are forwarded to that email list.
